Background:

I started my career with the University of Minnesota as a student worker in the Facilities Management (FM) department. The year was 1991, and I was doing data entry for the MAPs system (the predecessor of COMPASS). After a couple of years learning the MAPs system, I transitioned to a Business Systems Analyst role. This role provided me an opportunity to play an integral part in migrating from MAPs to COMPASS, focusing mostly on data, the equipment module, and training. Currently, I support COMPASS, FM BI, Custodial and FM Contact applications, FM Drupal, and various other applications. These roles, as well as my role providing access to data, reporting, and metrics for a variety of teams around the U offer me an opportunity to work with many wonderful people throughout the University.

Fun Facts:

Who is the most famous person you have met?

I met Douglas Adams (the author of The Hitchhiker's Guides to the Galaxy) during a book signing at Williamson Hall. This was back when Williamson Hall housed the student book store.

What is one of your favorite quotes, and what does it mean to you?

One of my favorite quotes is "Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard". I believe that in order to learn, grow and advance in work and at home, hard work is essential. Others may have more raw talent but through hard work and perseverance you can do anything you want to do. This concept of work ethic is something I try to live by and is also something I try to instill in my kids.

What is one of your favorite U moments?

I remember visiting campus for the first time as a potential student. The campus was impressive and one of the reasons I decided to attend the U. I have always remembered this experience, and it makes me proud every day that I get to be a part of the department that is responsible for not only making this an amazing campus but also continually finding ways to improve it.
